From our founding in 1961 up until 2014, Great Rissington Cricket Club only ran one Saturday league team. Towards the end of the 2013 season we ran an intra-club game that proved that we could get more than 22 players from the club on the field of play on a single day. Our plans for a Saturday 2nd XI came to fruition over the winter of 2013/2014 helped by our buoyant junior section with many of the older age group expressing an interest in playing the longer format of the game than the usual 20 overs per side that the junior leagues offered.

From 2014 onwards we have run 2 Saturday league teams, the 1st XI playing in and making progress through the divisions of the Gloucestershire County League despite many league shake-ups (which even saw us Divison 3 Champions in 2015 but not achieving promotion!) and the 2nd XI playing in the Cotswold District Cricket Association League, the history of their progress in the CDCA is detailed below. Our aim is to have both teams playing in the Gloucestershire County League and with the form of recent years there is no reason why we cannot see that achieved in the next few years.
